    Swim Team Week 1

    Hello Dolphins!!

First of all Welcome back! I hope you all had a great year and are ready for summer time again. We have put a lot of work into this season and we are so excited to get started!

    Coaches

My name is Shawn Pyne I will be returning this year as head coach. I swam for DCC growing up, and I also swam at Dynamo for 10 years followed by a brief collegiate career at an NCAA D2 school. I graduated from Bellarmine University this past weekend with a degree in Respiratory Therapy.

Paul Joyce is also returning. He is finishing up finals this week at college in Minnesota, but will be back on with us full time starting next week. Paul grew up swimming at Vermack and has been coaching at DCC for the past 3 years.

We also have four new swim coaches this year. Anna Hughes grew up first swimming at Dunwoody North Driving Club and then coaching. She went to Dekalb School of the Arts and is now Studying at Elon University as a Public Health Major. Anna Is also finishing up finals this week, but will be back in Dunwoody coaching with us starting next week.

Ashley Springer is another new face this summer. She is graduating from Mount Vernon this weekend and will be attending the College of Charleston in the fall. Ashley swam at Mount Vernon and coached at Redfield.

Haley Pyne is a sophomore at Dunwoody High School and will be helping coach, along with doing some behind the scenes work for our swim meets. She grew up swimming at DCC and you might find her name on our record board.

Walker Wicklund is a member of DCC and will be coaching with us this summer as a Junior Coach. She has been on the team for many years and has been a great asset.

Registration :We will be posting a final roster of swimmers later this week. Make sure your child’s name is on it. If you have not registered yet, please do so as soon as possible. The ASA fee is built into the registration process this year. If the ASA fee is not paid for your swimmer, we will not be allowed to enter them in the first swim meet on 5/30.

Time Trials : Time trials will be held throughout next week. We will time one event per day to see where we will place swimmers in the first meet. If your swimmer has to miss any day next week, they can make up the event they missed on the next practice day they attend. If you have any questions about this, please let me know.

MEET 1!! : Our first swim meet will be at HOME on Tuesday May 30th against Vermack. That Tuesday will be the first day we switch to morning swim practice. Practice will end a little early for each age group so we can mark swimmers with their events. PLEASE make sure you go online and RSVP your swimmer for all of the meets you can attend. We will be making the lineup based on the RSVPs. If you do not respond, we will assume you will not be there.

Practice This week: We are easing back into things this week. For our 6 and unders, we will be teaching backstroke and freestyle. The goal is to have them swimming a lap without stopping before our first meet. We have a lot of swimmers who have moved up from 6and Under and will be competing as 7-8 year olds. The 7-8 kids will have to swim every stroke so we will spend a good amount of time on instruction and technique these first two weeks. For the 9 and Ups, we just want to make sure they remember how to swim! We will be doing drills and making sure all of their strokes are legal, while slowly building their endurance.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me at [email protected]

    Thanks,

    Shawn Pyne
