2020 Swim & Dive Team Details Update

    Hello DCC Dolphins!!

We are excited for our Summer to begin! When that will be is the million dollar question, but we are getting closer. Lots of questions I'm sure! We have lots too. But this is what we do know so far to help you out a bit:

    - We pulled off the pool cover last week to get ready for an early May Fulton County Inspection. We have been cleaning, pressure washing, fixing things, etc., all week. Keeping the staff safe, as only a couple lifeguards allowed on the deck at a time to distance ourselves. I was in contact weeks ago with our Inspector and they will not be able to even begin thinking of pools until May, which is a full month behind their schedule. But we will be ready for when they can come out to inspect our Aquatics Center and at that point we can move forward with our plans.

    - No need to worry now because our water is too cold to swim anyway. As of today our pool temperature is 65. (Normal for April) Our kids are usually chilly the first day of Swim & Dive Team practice and the water is usually 78-81 degrees, if that helps put it in perspective. We do not have a pool heater so we wait for the warm weather to start warming up the pool water.

    - Will we have a Swim & Dive Team this Summer? We actually think we will be able to pull of some sort of team sport this summer. Probably not beginning on May 11 like we originally planned. In the beginning we think practices will have smaller groups of children to keep within the social distancing guidelines. Times may be different to accommodate the new guidelines. Might even be able to have some sort of timed events for swim team and judged events for dive team to have some sort of competitive feel. Meets will probably be smaller if we can have meets. The season may not start until June and could go into July. We don't know just yet any details. But we are flexible. The leagues will probably let us know more details early-May.

    - We have 191,000 gallons of sanitizer (our pool water) that yes kills things like viruses, Ecoli, etc. The question is how you keep 300 kids from touching everything else... That is why we probably won't see the large gatherings at pools for a while. But we might be able to have lap swimming with strict guidelines and online reservations just like Golf & Tennis have implemented.

    - Will you be charged for Swim & Dive Team if you have registered your children? No. Not for a while and not if we do not have a team sport. Even though the automated online registration says you have been charged, you have not. I personally am the one every summer that charges the member account numbers once our season has begun. Usually not until June. But yes please register because it gives us an idea of who is wanting to join us this summer and soon we will be only emailing the 2020 team and not last year's roster.

    - All of our Swim & Dive Team Coaches have been in constant contact as government guidelines change weekly. We are adapting and coming up with creative ways to still coach all of you this summer. Things will definitely be different than what we are used to this summer but we are ready and excited to see everyone one day!!!

Please let me know if you need anything else. We are all happy to help.

We will know more at the beginning of May and will be in touch with you soon after.

    Stay Safe!

    Take Care,

    Bridget Turner, DCC Aquatics Director
